DUSHANBE, 22.03.2023 (NIAT Khovar) – On March 21, the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, participated and spoke at the side event titled «Water unites us» within the framework of the United Nations Water Conference — 2023 in New York City, United States of America.
The King of the Netherlands, the President of the United Nations General Assembly, the Presidents of Iraq, Botswana, Liberia, Slovenia, the Prime Ministers of Tuvalu, Namibia, Mali, as well as the heads of the official delegations of the UN member states and international and regional organizations took part in the event.
The representative of the UN Office for Economic and Social Affairs, Lotta Tahtinen, started the event and gave the floor to the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon, and the co-chairman of the UN Water Conference, the King of the Netherlands, Willem Alexander.
Honorable President of the country Emomali Rahmon stated in his speech that today the issue of unification of the international community to solve the issues related to water has gained double importance.
Water as the main source of life is under severe pressure due to the effects of climate change, rapid population growth, urban expansion and other factors affecting it.
In order to change this trend, it is necessary to take urgent measures at all levels.
It was emphasized that precisely for this reason, Tajikistan has been steadily promoting issues related to water and climate for the past two decades, playing an effective role in the global development agenda.
Cooperation in the field of water over the past decades has led to the fact that countries with different geographical, economic development, cultural and linguistic differences make joint efforts to implement water-related goals.
It should be said that Tajikistan and the Kingdom of the Netherlands have done a lot in a relatively short period of time to promote issues related to water and climate.
The heads of state stated that we consider this partnership as an example of cooperation and solidarity, especially between developed and developing countries, upstream and downstream.
The President of the country, Honorable Emomali Rahmon, expressed gratitude to the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for the beneficial cooperation in this process.
In the end, the Heads of State confidently stated that the international community will make joint efforts in promoting the global water issue through cooperation and mutual support using existing mechanisms to solve water problems in all countries.
